2025 Optimist African Championship - Tanzania
The Tanzania Optimist Dinghy Association (TODA), together with sailing clubs and centres across the country, proudly fielded a team of 10 sailors to represent Tanzania at the 2025 Optimist African Championship, hosted on home waters in Dar es Salaam from 2–9 August 2025.
Competing against Africa’s top young sailors and invited international teams, the Tanzanian squad demonstrated determination, sportsmanship, and steady progress throughout the championship. Racing on familiar waters provided a valuable opportunity for growth, learning, and high-level competition.
The team achieved notable results, including podium finishes in the African divisions, with Tanzania placing:
3rd – African Girls (Alyah Hart)
3rd – African Boys (Abubakhar Mpondi)
3rd – African Sailors Overall (Abubakhar Mpondi)
Beyond results, the championship marked an important milestone in the development of Tanzanian youth sailing. The experience gained on home waters will play a key role in shaping the future of the national Optimist programme.
